There's
no other place quite like it. Exciting top-ranked rodeo's... a
unique western theme downtown... quiet riding and hiking trails...
lush tropical gardens... spacious acre homes.... a community
college... four universities.. and much more make up Davie's
versatile community. In the heart of South Florida, Davie is just
minutes from beaches, cities, ports and airports.
Davie's
origins are rooted in the desire of its founders to live on the land
far from bustling cities in an agricultural setting. Davie outgrew
its agricultural origins, but unlike most cities it still maintains
its rural roots. Today's Davie is a vibrant 33 square mile community
in the heart of Broward County. Its mixture of expensive homes,
citrus, cattle and horse farms, rodeos, busy commercial districts
and growing educational center make it one of the unique cities in
Broward County.
In its efforts to
preserve history, a special architectural style motif is modeled
after the American West. Davie's western architectural facilities
have allowed it to truly become the rodeo "capital" of the
southeast.
The original Davie
rodeo arena itself dates back to 1946 when it was built by a few
local cowboys and some neighborhood residents. The building of the
arena was a cooperative effort because of the lack of funds. The man
who produced the first Davie Rodeo in 1946, with only a handful of
spectators hanging over the fence to watch, was Claude Tindall, a
rodeo veteran and one of Florida's real cowboys.
Today, thanks to the
efforts of the community the Davie Arena on the Bergeron Rodeo
Grounds is now a vibrant 72,000 square foot facility under roof with
a seating capacity of 7,500. It hosts many concerts, the Florida
Westfair and the Davie Pro Rodeo Series.
